August Spotlight
Summer's end
I realize this past summer hasn’t been the most consistent for Pudding Pops. There have been some positive life changes and I’ve been able to put more focus on a book project I’m very excited about. To close out this summer, here’s the Pudding roundup for August.

Before I moved to San Antonio I asked a friend who grew up near here what to expect. He made a very clear point that the grocery store H-E-B is one of the best in America. I can’t agree more and as a company they seem to be on the better side of Texas. H-E-B also seems to have a bit of street cred with designers, so much so that it inspired a self-intiated heavy-metal shirt.
For my mental clarity, I cancelled my New York Times subscription this month. Before I did I went through my ‘saved' articles and revisited this great profile on the documentary director Ezra Edelman’s lost Prince film. I guess it’ll be lost to time just like my subscription. RIP Prince. (Bonus read: Aggie Toppins’ insanely good semiotic review of Prince’s graphic design.)
Watch
For those of you in Seoul, please visit this exhibition of designer 신동혁 Shin Dongheyok and 박다함 Park Daham’s (aka DJ YesYes) collaboration as Helicopter Records. The show titled “미안합니다. 할 수 있는 조건에서 최대한 빠르게! (I'm sorry. I'll do it as quickly as possible under the circumstances!)” is explained in Shin’s post as how the two have worked together over the years. I really wish I was able to see this collection in person. The show runs until September 20 at 코드 (Cord).
Another effort I’ve been making for my mental clarity has been trying VERY hard to spend as little time on Instagram. Despite this, the algorithm has me figured out so well that Ramon Pang’s reels have been popping up consistently. Pang’s claim to fame, among many things, is having coined the term “IDM (Intelligent Dance Music). I recommend following him and watching this phenomenal lineage of video games, the Sony Playstation and dance music.
Listen
I’ve professed about the trance revivalist duo みんなのきもち Minna-no-kimochi before and last month I linked a great profile on the Internatiiional. Both of these favorites come together in this recorded set at Modeci in Seoul.
Salamanda is Another Internatiiional affiliated DJ duo who have their own NTS residency called Shadow Dance. Here’s my pick from the show’s episodes.
